Bathtub scene 

The act of sitting in a bathtub with an excessieve amount of foam is a reference to the sometimes neurotic need to clean or fix what is different or odd.

Like an old lady repeatedly rubbing a spat on napkin over a childs cheek, without seeing results. 

​

It's also a reference to the spots often being mistaken for dirt.
